Student Microscope Cleaning & Care Guide
Microscopes · 5 August 2026
Proper cleaning and careful handling help keep a microscope accurate, safe, and long-lasting. Always carry it with two hands, clean lenses only with lens paper, keep the stage and body dust-free, and remove immersion oil after use. Switch off the microscope, set it to the lowest-power objective, neatly arrange the cord, and cover it before storage. Handle gently, clean regularly, and store safely.
Student Microscope Cleaning & Care Guide
1. Handle the Microscope Carefully
- Always carry the microscope with two hands.
- Hold the arm with one hand and support the base with the other.
- Never drag the microscope across the table.
- Keep the microscope on a stable, clean surface.
2. Clean the Lenses
- Use only lens-cleaning paper or a soft optical cloth.
- Gently wipe the eyepiece and objective lenses.
- Never touch the glass surfaces with your fingers.
- Do not use ordinary tissue, paper towels, or clothing.
3. Clean the Stage
- Remove dust, liquid, and specimen material after use.
- Wipe the stage gently with a clean, slightly damp soft cloth.
- Make sure the stage is completely dry before storing.
4. Clean the Body
- Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth to remove dust.
- For stubborn marks, use a cloth slightly dampened with appropriate cleaning solution.
- Never spray liquid directly onto the microscope.
5. Take Care of the Objectives
- After observation, rotate the nosepiece to the lowest-power objective.
- If immersion oil is used, clean the oil-immersion objective immediately with proper lens paper.
- Never leave oil on an objective.
6. Protect the Microscope
- Switch off the light after use.
- Unplug the microscope when required.
- Wrap the power cord neatly—never pull it from the socket.
- Cover the microscope with its dust cover when completely dry.
